This week, the teams at Depths of Erendorn made substantial progress across multiple areas of development, focusing on both character assets and environmental enhancements. The 3D Modelling team delivered a new armoured skeleton model with a time-worn, battle-scarred appearance, while also completing a thorough revision of the snake textures to address previously unnoticed issues. The Set Piece Design team added painted moss to various assets, improved landscape material transitions, and refined settlement set dressing to heighten environmental realism. In the environment department, the integration of Fluid Ninja brought new possibilities for dynamic water features, with waterfalls and a river system implemented as part of ongoing experiments with fluid systems. Meanwhile, the Animation team worked on refining the Dwarf character, adjusting skin weights, optimising cloth physics, and revising idle and run cycles to achieve greater consistency and polish. 3D Modelling

This week, the 3D Modelling team at Depths of Erendorn made notable progress on several key assets. Work began with the creation of a base model for the armoured skeleton, followed by an iterative design process that incorporated team feedback to finalise the character’s appearance. This collaborative effort resulted in a cohesive and distinctive design, enhanced with degraded armour giving the appearance of time that has passed them by. Additionally, what started as a minor update to the snake textures evolved into a more comprehensive revision after various issues were discovered, ensuring these creatures maintain a high standard of quality and consistency within the game world. Examples of the work completed by the team can be seen below.

Set Piece Design

This week, the Set Piece Design team at Depths of Erendorn focused on enhancing the visual appeal and environmental integration of key areas within the game. Painted moss was applied to various assets, adding a natural, weathered appearance that helps blend structures more seamlessly into their surroundings. Additionally, improvements were made to the landscape material transition blending, resulting in smoother and more realistic shifts between terrain types. The team also refined the overall set dressing of settlements, adding subtle details and adjustments to create a more immersive and authentic atmosphere throughout the game world. Examples of the set piece design team's work can be seen below.

Environment Art

This week, the Environment team at Depths of Erendorn made significant strides in enhancing the game’s natural landscapes by integrating Fluid Ninja into the project. Initial experiments were conducted with the fluid systems to determine the most effective methods for implementation, ensuring optimal performance and visual fidelity. Work also progressed on the development of dynamic water features, with early versions of waterfalls and a river system implemented into the main level. These additions contribute to the immersive quality of Erendorn's environments, bringing realistic and visually engaging water effects to the world. Further refinements are planned as the team continues to explore the potential of these fluid systems.

Animation

This week, the Animation team at Depths of Erendorn focused on refining the Dwarf character model to improve both visual consistency and in-game performance. Adjustments were made to the skin weights to ensure more natural and responsive character movements, while cloth physics were fine-tuned to enhance the realism of fabric interactions during gameplay. Additionally, the idle and run cycles were revised to maintain consistency across animations, providing a smoother and more polished experience. The team also conducted a thorough review of the newly created armour, ensuring proper integration with the character’s rig and animations. These refinements contribute to a more immersive and cohesive presentation of the Earthen Dwarf within the game.

That’s it for this week’s devlog, but have you seen our monthly roundup of January yet?!
